My name is Tugba Rona, and I will be interning at Preemadonna this summer. I am starting my Full-Time MBA at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in the fall. I was actually born and raised around the Bay Area (specifically Palo Alto and San Jose) though I’m Turkish so I’m especially excited to be returning this summer after 8 years on the East Coast! I am truly looking forward to joining the dynamic and passionate Preemadonna team as they build more great products like the Nailbot. I am especially excited to learn how to navigate Silicon Valley from the expert herself, Pree!
My name is Rebecca Chau. I will be starting my MBA at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business this fall. Originally from the Bay Area, I am excited not only be back home but also to join the Preemadonna team and to work in a very different context than my previous experience. I am a strong proponent of women in leadership positions and am looking forward to learning from Pree, Casey, and the rest of the team on how they have succeeded in a male-dominated startup world!
On April 15th 2017, in partnership with the Prince George’s County Parks and Recreation, the Flash Technology Summit happened! The Flash Technology Summit was a day of small workshops that all centered around technology. There were three different workshops, the iYouth MultiMedia workshop lead by Community Connextionz and focused on the audio visual concepts, the STEAM America workshop which taught kids how to create web pages. The workshop personally lead by myself (Adrian McClanahan) was hands on with building printers and coding them - i.e. the Preemadonna Maker Kit.
My name is Sona Kaul. I am an industrial engineering major at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, graduating in May 2017. I am working on the Preemadonna mobile app and I am also a MakerGirl Change Maker!
My experiences and knowledge that I have gained with Preemadonna and MakerGirl have truly opened my eyes to the progress that women have made in recent years but also all the progress we have yet to make.
This July, Preemadonna was lucky enough to meet at the Garage as well as with the Digital Media Academy on Northwestern’s campus in Evanston Illinois. The Garage is a space where startup companies can build and learn from each other in a workspace environment. Preemadonna was able to speak in front of their Summer Accelerator which included several early-based student startups. A group of DMA students were also able to attend Preemadonna’s presentation at the Garage. DMA is an organization that holds STEM based learning programs for young students in the area.
On June 24th Pree and I packed up the Nailbot and went to the Stanford campus to present for classes at the Digital Media Academy Made by Girls program. We spoke with two groups of about 20 teenagers about the journey and the making of the Nailbot. One of the classes we met was learning about building mobile apps and the other was designing wearable tech. So of course Preemadonna and our Nailbots fit right in!
