Wednesday Oct 4th : Day 1
I made it to Columbus, Ohio for the Girl Scout Convention all in one piece! After a five-hour flight, Pree and I landed in John Glenn Columbus International Airport and were immediately hit with signs for the convention everywhere we went. There were volunteers there ready to help us get to our hotel with ease to recharge our batteries for the next day. Even while we were on the bus to the hotel, everyone was chit chatting about whether they were here for the convention. Once Pree and I got settled in, we decided to stretch our legs and check out the Convention Center. I don’t know about you but I was not expecting the convention center to be so long. Maybe its my short legs that made it feel like walking from one side to the other was like walking through an expanse of prairie with the horizon ever stretching away from you. By the time we finally reached the Hall of Experiences where our Preemadonna booth would be, I could have sworn we had crossed state lines, but it was worth it though because I got to peek through the doors and what lay behind them got me super excited for tomorrow. I’m not going to tell you now because I don’t want to spoil the surprise. You’ll just have to wait till tomorrow to find out the awesomeness that is awaiting. For now, good night and get pumped for G.I.R.L. Con 2017!
On April 15th 2017, in partnership with the Prince George’s County Parks and Recreation, the Flash Technology Summit happened! The Flash Technology Summit was a day of small workshops that all centered around technology. There were three different workshops, the iYouth MultiMedia workshop lead by Community Connextionz and focused on the audio visual concepts, the STEAM America workshop which taught kids how to create web pages. The workshop personally lead by myself (Adrian McClanahan) was hands on with building printers and coding them - i.e. the Preemadonna Maker Kit.
I went into the Maker Kit challenge with virtually no experience in building or in robots, so you can imagine I was a little overwhelmed when I dumped out all the pieces in front of me. Honestly, all the parts looked the same; it was hard to distinguish what pieces were supposed to fit with each other. But I decided to give it my best, and to my surprise, I actually began to put the printer together without any issues!!!
“What do you call a belt made out of watches?”
“A time belt?”
That was my attempt at answering my nine year old brother’s joke, and from the “Come on!” look on his face, I can tell I didn’t do too well. My suspicions are confirmed when he tells me, “Marie, that’s the mechanic’s answer!”.
Well, what can I say? I am a Mechanical Engineering major in her senior year at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I enjoy being in a club on campus that designs and builds off road BAJA vehicles to race in the spring and regularly judges for First Lego League events. I am part of AOE, an engineering sorority, MakerGirl, a non-profit company that aims to inspire girls to find their passions through STEAM with the aid of 3D printers and am constantly working on group projects, such as my most recent, creating an emergency balloon flare.
Hi everyone, my name is Caitlyn Deegan and I am the new Ambassador Manager for Preemadonna. I am going into my junior year at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as a Materials Engineer. I am also a MakerGirl. I have been working with the nonprofit, MakerGirl, for about a year and a half now so I am an avid promoter of STEM especially for women. Through this experience, I was lucky enough to meet the Preemadonna team and I instantly fell in love with them and the Nailbot. I am extremely excited to start my journey with this company!
Hi! My name is Meghna Okhade, and I am a 9th grader at Mission San Jose High School, located in Fremont, CA. Some of my favorite things to do include reading, swimming, and traveling. I also enjoy music-related activities such as playing the piano and singing.
Preemadonna is driven by two of the most passionate and talented people that I have met in my work with over 100 start-up founders. Not only are Pree and Casey wicked-smart and driven, they are also aligned around a goal of symbolizing a movement of females in tech, which I firmly believe is 100% aligned with the aspirations of their target audience. They are not just pushing tech, they are captivating a new audience with a meaningful offering, which is both inspirational and fun for tweens and teens. They are leading the way for IoT in the beauty vertical. It will be an inspirational journey to see what they do next.
Preemadonna is building a next generation, smart female consumer company and our Ambassadors are its founding members. We are redefining inspirational beauty and showing the world that being smart and feeling beautiful are not a contradiction. And we are doing it girl by girl, neighborhood by neighborhood, and nail by nail with our seriously fun invention, the Nailbot.
As we’ve mentioned in the past, Preemadonna means being a lot of things - being dynamic, being smart, and feeling beautiful. That’s the foundation that we are building the company on, but many of you have asked how it relates to our first product, the Nailbot. Well, it’s complicated.
Preemadonna and our Nailbot’s first visit on June 25, 2015 to Alexa Café was a blast. So first, a heartfelt thanks to Alexa Café Palo Alto and its rockstar campers for letting us come talk with you all! For those of you not familiar with Alexa Café, it’s a week long summer camp for girls that focuses on creative technology, with 10 campuses across the country.
