Hi everyone, my name is Caitlyn Deegan and I am the new Ambassador Manager for Preemadonna. I am going into my junior year at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as a Materials Engineer. I am also a MakerGirl. I have been working with the nonprofit, MakerGirl, for about a year and a half now so I am an avid promoter of STEM especially for women. Through this experience, I was lucky enough to meet the Preemadonna team and I instantly fell in love with them and the Nailbot. I am extremely excited to start my journey with this company!
My journey into STE(A)M education has been a long one. As an engineer myself I immediately saw the gender gap in those fields. My classes were dominated my men and the further I have gotten into the curriculum the more male dominated it has become. Instead of seeing this as intimidating, I saw this as an opportunity to change this for the future. I wanted to show that the female mind is just as empowering as the male mind, if not more. I had no idea how to even go about this, but through a few mutual friends I was introduced to MakerGirl on campus. I was in love with this startup the minute I heard their vision: Girls live and dream as unstoppable forces that say yes to the challenges of the future which leads to gender equality in all workplaces. I joined the team right after meeting them and this is where my journey began.
Through MakerGirl I have been able to change the lives of so many young girls by teaching them the power of their own minds through 3D printing. Seeing their eyes light up after creating their own creation from scratch is priceless. They are learning that girls can be smart and unique and they can do anything they put their minds to. As MakerGirl was growing, they created a board of Advisors which included Pree Walia, the co-founder & CEO of Preemadonna. As Preemadonna and the Nailbot were developing, Pree and Casey brought the Nailbot to a MakerGirl session in Champaign. It was an immediate hit with our girls as well as for our MakerGirl team. After meeting Pree, another door was opened for me into a world of STE(A)M education.
I am now a part of the Preemadonna team as a MakerGirl mentor and Ambassador Manager. I am able to show girls that they can be feminine while showing the brilliance of their minds, and that being beautiful and intelligent go together hand in hand. I live by this mantra every day and encourage everyone I meet to do the same. Preemadonna gives girls the chance to show who they are and share it to our community with our Ambassador programs, challenges, partnerships and curriculum. Girls can choose what speaks to them with our social bee challenge, hacker challenge, and artist challenge. I encourage you all to become and Ambassador and to contribute to one of our challenges today! (We will feature you on our blogs and even send you some fun SWAG!)
Join us on our journey promoting the brilliance, creativity and beauty of the female mind!
